Daniel K. Akaka State Veterans Home
A 120-bed veterans care and rehabilitation facility in Kapolei.
Nestled on a serene seven-acre site in Kapolei, the Daniel K. Akaka State Veterans Home stands as Hawaii’s largest post-acute care and rehabilitation facility dedicated to supporting our veterans. Opened in March 2025, this thoughtfully designed 120-bed home serves as a warm and healing community for veterans and their families.
Developed at a cost of approximately $93 million, the facility was built to fill a critical need for long-term care on Oahu—doubling the state’s capacity and offering a full spectrum of skilled nursing, dementia, rehabilitation, and palliative services.
The design reflects a deep sense of honor and community: buildings are arranged in smaller household clusters to foster comfort and connection, while the architecture and landscape extend views and access to Hawaii’s natural surroundings. This thoughtful layout promotes healing, social engagement, and daily dignity.
Named after Senator Daniel Kahikina Akaka—Hawaii’s first Native Hawaiian U.S. Senator and a lifelong champion of veterans—this home embodies his legacy of service, aloha, and caring for those who have served our nation.
