A refreshed rental on Hawaii’s Kohala Coast

Hale o Ka Lā is a luxury residence located within the Mauna Kea Resort community on Hawaii’s Kohala Coast. Originally built in the early 1990s, the home was thoughtfully reimagined through a collaborative renovation led by interior designer Diane Bobek in partnership with designer Taleah Smith and builder Pono Hana.

The project focused on updating the home while honoring its original architectural character and strong connection to the surrounding landscape. Interiors were redesigned with a warm and inviting palette that blends natural textures, custom furnishings, and contemporary finishes, creating a relaxed environment that reflects the spirit of resort living on the Big Island.

Large openings and expansive lanais allow the interior spaces to flow seamlessly into outdoor living areas, framing views of the ocean and surrounding landscape. The renovation brings new life to the residence while maintaining the sense of calm and comfort that defines a Hawaiian retreat.

The photography focused on documenting the relationship between the refreshed interiors, outdoor living spaces, and the natural light that shapes the experience of the home throughout the day.
