Kohanaiki Resort Residence on Hawaii

A private residence in an exclusive community on the Kona Coast

Located within the private Kohanaiki community on the Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, this contemporary residence was designed by Light Wave Designs and built by GM Construction to reflect the relaxed coastal lifestyle of West Hawaii.

The home is organized around open living spaces that flow seamlessly between interior rooms and expansive outdoor lanais. A zen garden in the front courtyard creates a quiet arrival experience, while clean architectural lines, natural stone surfaces, and light-toned wood cabinetry establish a calm, modern interior palette that complements the surrounding lava landscape and ocean views.

Large sliding glass walls open the main living areas to outdoor gathering spaces, including a pool terrace, fire pit lounge, and covered dining area designed for entertaining and everyday indoor-outdoor living.

The architectural photography for this project focused on capturing the home’s connection to the Kona coastline, the interplay of natural materials and modern detailing, and the way the architecture frames views of the ocean, landscape, and sky throughout the day.
